Sony Ericsson W580i Pink Joins The Sony W580i Walkman Range
January 23rd, 2010
Pink mobile phones were first introduced to the market around three years ago when the pioneering manufacturer Motorola launched its pink version of the Motorola RAZR V3 handset just before Christmas, other manufacturers then followed suit and this gave rise to a flood of new pink handsets.
The latest pink mobile phone release is the Sony Ericsson W580i, the fourth colour variant from the model range following on from the original Urban Grey, Style White, Boulevard Black the official name for the new colour scheme is Metro Pink.
It is usually around this time of year that retailers get a good idea of what is going to be on offer over the festive period with manufacturers and dealers slowly giving out press releases on new products and rumours flying around the mobile phone forums. This year is without doubt the year of different coloured phones, never before have there been so many colour schemes available.
The new Sony W580i Pink Edition fits into a niche of its own, there is only one other pink mobile phone featuring enhanced music software which is the Pink Samsung F210, however the W580i is part of the Walkman range of Sony Ericsson phones which means it offers the latest version of the Walkman music software.
The music software allows the user to easily upload new music files ot complete albums from a PC to the phone, entire CDs can be copied direct to the phones memory with a clever piece of software called Disc2Phone. Users can also download new music tracks direct from the mobile internet and then organise them into playlists to suit mood, genre or tempo, the W580i has 2GB of memory thanks to Memory Stick Duo which can hold up to 1600 songs which compares favourably with many stand alone MP3 players.
There is also an extra feature not found on the F210, TrackID is a service that recognises music tracks, if a user wanted to know more information about a piece of music they were listening to whilst out and about, they can simply record a couple of seconds of sound and the phone will send this to a recognition database which will in turn send back a message to the phone with the name of the artist and track, this can be very useful if in a nightclub, rather than barging through to ask the DJ which track they have on the user can find out almost instantly.
Staying with the music theme, there is also an FM radio for keeping up to date with the latest music releases, news, sports and local traffic and weather reports which also features RDS which will display information sent out by the station such as the artist and track name playing.
The Sony W580i features a 2.0 megapixel camera with support for video recording and playback, digital zoom for close up picture capture and a flash for low light conditions, this is a similar camera to the F210.
One feature that the W580i does have over the F210 is that of a suite of fitness and sports applications including a pedometer, particularly useful if you like to listen to music whilst you jog and want to keep a record of your progress.
The Sony Ericsson W580i Pink Edition offers a more feminine quality to the expanding range of Walkman phones which up until now have been very masculine looking, female mobile users also like to enjoy their music so it makes for a welcome addition to the range.
