History of CD Walkman (Discman)

The first CD based Walkman was initially launched in 1984 — the D-50 (D-5 in some markets). It was officially called the ‘Discman’, and this name has since been used informally to refer to such players. In recent years, Sony has dropped the Discman name and markets all its personal stereos under the Walkman brand.

Later Discman models featured ESP (Electronic Skip Protection), which pre-read the music from the CD into on-board memory and formed a type of buffer to prevent the CD skipping when the player was moved. The technology was since renamed ‘G-Protection’ and features a larger memory area, providing additional protection against skipping.

For years, the Discman and MD Walkman were successes in the marketplace. However, newer technologies, such as flash memory and hard drive-based digital audio players have caused the CD- and MD-based Walkman to lose popularity.

Sony still makes CD Walkmans — the newer models are capable of playing ATRAC3, ATRAC3plus, and MP3 CDs, and have become progressively thinner and more compact with each revision.

Behold The Sony Ericsson K850i Mobile Phone Device

Sony Ericsson’s K850i is a 3.5G phone which was launched in October 2007. The phone is the latest offering in the K series of Sony Ericsson’s camera phones. It comes in a candy bar shape with the dimensions of 102x48x17mm weighing 118 grams, which makes it one of the lightest phones in town.

The display screen of K850i is a 2.2inches TFT display which has exceptional clarity and contrast. The display resolution is 240x320pixels. The phone has a 5 megapixel camera at the rear and a VGA camera in front for video calling. The rear camera is the highlighting feature of this phone as it takes an amazing quality picture with its sensor assisted by other features like an ISO-80 which allows the camera to take clear images without any distortion or noise.

Also for night shooting, the phone is equipped with a Xenon flash which is very good tool for taking pictures in zero light conditions. For taking Videos, though is where the phone has surprisingly poor performance. There are 3 Led lights which sufficiently illuminate the surroundings.

The Phone is also equipped with standard features like a Java virtual machine which supports MIDP 2.0, an fm stereo with RDS, a full fledged media player on the lines of Walkman players. One of the new features in this phone is inclusion of motion sensor which changes the UI of camera phone from portrait to landscape and vice versa when the display is flipped.

For connectivity, the phone comes equipped with Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, GPRS, 3G connectivity and further 3.5G HSDPA connectivity. The on board memory of the phone stands at 40MB which can be expanded to up to 2GB by memory stick micro M2. The package comes with the handset, standard charger, driver’s cd and a complimentary 1GB memory stick. The phone is a very good buy considering the price and the quality of camera. It aims at young users who want a replacement for their cameras for day to day usage.

Sony W595 Blue W-Series Phone Joins Sony Ericsson W595 Walkman Range

Sony Ericsson have been busy of late releasing a multitude of new Walkman phones, the latest addition to the W-Series range is the new Sony Ericsson W595, a direct upgrade to the extremely popular W580i with enhanced technology, new features and a similar but improved design. The Sony W595 Walkman phone looks very similar to the previous W580i but its form it more squared and this phone offers the latest Walkman music software and stereo speakers for sharing music whilst with friends.

Other features to note include TrackID, Shake Control, Walk Mate, Video Blogging, Access to Online Music Store, 3.15 megapixel camera, large 2.2 inch display screen and 3G services with video calling. The Sony Ericsson W595 is a Walkman phone built for sharing, this sliding mobile phone features built in stereo speakers and a stereo Share jack allowing for a second stereo headset so that two people can listen to the music player.

The W595′s Walkman player supports several file formats including MP3 and AAC and with 40mb on board memory expandable further via an M2 slot, users will not be short of places to store their favourite music tracks. With Shake control activated, press and hold the Walkman key, then flick the wrist – a vibration lets the user know that the track has been changed – a new song from the current playlist is selected randomly then played automatically.

The easy-to-use Walk Mate application stays activated all throughout the day, it keeps track of how many steps walked and how many steps left to reach a daily average health goal.
