It’s been no the market a while, now, but the Sony Ericsson W960i is still the king of music!
The rise of the music mobile phones
It seems inevitable, now, that music mobile phones would become so vastly popular. When the first ones appeared, people were a little bit wary, a little bit unsure, but it’s fair to say that fear soon went away, and people flocked to buy them in droves! The logic behind it’s simple; why carry a separate mobile phone and music player, when you can ahve one box in your pocket that does both?! Of course, that seems obvious to us, now, but back in the olden days of a couple of years ago, it wasn’t so obvious. There was one series of mobile phones that really changed that, that let the music mobile take off dominate. I argue that without the success of this paticular brand, music phones wouldn’t be anywhere near as prevalent nowadays.
I’m talking, of course, about Sony Ericsson’s fabulous Walkman phones, the first trendsetter of which was the W800i. Without that, without Sony Ericsson showing the world that your mobile phone could very easily double for (and, in fact, surpass) your standalone mp3 player, we wouldn’t all be using them now. And the Walkman family has itself evolved, setting new benchmarks and trends for the rest of the mobile world to try and catch up with. It seems only fitting then, that what I consider to be the most advanced music phone on the planet today is a Walkman phone…
Say hello to the glorious Sony Ericsson W960i
Make no mistake about it the Sony Ericsson W960i is like something out of a science-fiction film. Show this amazing mobile phone to someone from 2001, and their head would probably explode out of sheer wonder. The first obvious thing that grabs you is the sleek, glossy design, with a recessed keypad giving the front of the phone a sleek finish, and meaning it has no unsightly bulges. Oh, and of course, the screen is flush with the front of the phone, instead of having raised bevels round the edge, again giving it a smooth, “all one piece” feel. The other good thing about having the screen flush with the surface is that it makes using the touchscreen even easier.
Y’see, as you may know, the Sony Ericsson W960i has a full touchscreen, letting you access the menus, the music player, anything, simply by brushing the screen. Combine that with the traditional keypad and you have one of the nicest to use, and most intuitive, mobile phones I’ve ever come across. Then, of course, when you consider the feature-set (3 megapixel camera, fast internet access, new version of the Walkman music player which just beggars belief at how good it is!) you get one of the best phones I’ve ever seen. if you want to compare mobile phones, then pitch this against any of its rivals, and I guarantee it will win!
